About the Coalition

Founded in 2013, The Alabama Coalition for Public Charter Schools is a group of concerned parents, educators, and legislators who believe Every student in the state of Alabama should have access to a high quality school. The Coalition believes that high-quality public charter schools are one piece in the overall education reform strategy to provide Alabama students with an excellent education.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of our Coalition members and partners, as well as many other organizations and individuals, we are pleased to announce that on March 19, 2015, Governor Robert Bentley signed the Student Choice and Student Opportunity Act into law, making Alabama the 43rd state to enable public charter schools. The Coalition is incredibly grateful to the hard work of the bill sponsors and supporters who made passage possible.

With this new law in place, The Coalition now turns our attention to helping support those who are interested in starting a public charter school in Alabama. We know there are many questions surrounding implementation of public charter schools and we are quickly gathering resources to make the process as easy as possible for administrators, parents, and students.
